Meet Sharon and Jeanne
We met by pure chance when we sat down next to each other at a meeting about foster care. We were two moms who had both fostered for many years. We started chatting, and the conversation turned to what happened when foster children arrived at our door. They usually arrive with only the clothes on their back. We recognized what a huge issue this was, and by the end of the meeting the South Shore Foster Closet was born.
That was 2018. We started collecting used clothes from our friends, sorting them into bins and stacking them in our basements. Word got out and foster parents began asking for clothes for their foster children. We would put bags of clothes together so these kids would have plenty of fresh, clean clothes to wear.
These days we are now housed in our “Little White House” in Duxbury surrounded by shelves and shelves of donated clothes sorted by gender and size, racks of sneakers, closets full of diapers, school supplies and winter coats.
As a small but mighty 501c charity we provide clothing, footwear, underwear, socks jackets, and diapers to local foster adopted pre-adoptive and kinship children in Massachusetts. We have events that bring these children and the families that they live with together. Last year we provided more than 1500 new toys to these families at Christmas. We often have groceries to offer, we find items like used bikes or beds, we try our best to provide whatever is needed for these kids.
We are blessed to live our passion of helping each and every day.
